McAfee sometimes detects false positive, which can then interfere with our game files and prevent it from working properly. It is the case for our version of Hitman: Absolution. This can affect you in two ways:
- McAfee detects and blocks the file "W32/NGVCK.d"
You can see similar cases for other games on Steam:
This is a false positive, but if you would like further confirmation of the safety of our files, you can upload the game exe to VirusTotal: https://www.virustotal.com/.
- You get the "Launch fail - 2: the system cannot find the file specified" error message
This is due to McAfee putting the game exe in quarantine.
To retrieve the file, click on the cog in the top right corner, and open "Quarantined and Trusted Items" under features. Click on "Quarantined Items or Quarantined Potentially Unwanted Programs" to display the list of quarantined threats. From the list, select the game files, and click "Restore".
In both cases, you will need to pause the Real Time Scan feature to be able to launch the game.
We have got in touch with McAfee about this issue and we hope to resolve it soon.
